I must admit when I received the Kingdom Death: Monster box, I was a bit puzzled by why they had added The Golden Smoke Knight for two reasons: First of all I think The Watcher is such a cool and otherworldly miniature that it is perfect as the final boss, where ass the Golden Smoke Knight is more “human”. Secondly, at the time I wasn’t comfortable with painting gold! It has caused me problems for a long as I’ve been painting. However, between getting the KDM box and now, I have not only found a gold colour I don’t think…

I used to play Games Workshop games back in the WH40K Rogue Trader days, but I think recently Games Workshop has made a string of amazing miniatures. The first ones I spotted were these shadespire skeletons and now I’ve picked up another Shadespire set, Spiterclaw’s Swarm. Not sure how to use them yet in D&D… maybe some rat people or a gang of wererats.

Reaper Miniatures have a lot of models. Most are ok, some a rubbish, but sometimes they release something really inspiring and fun to paint. These Stitch Golems are definitely the later. Was great fun to paint and although my idea of stitching a painting patch on the big one didn’t quite work out as nicely as I thought it would, I am still happy with the overall result. Adding little tattoo snippets brings some interesting story to them too.

Having restarted Kingdom Death: Monster again (see Screaming Antilope), we’ve reached The Butcher. What is interesting is one of our survivors picked up a Butcher Cleaver in a previous hunt phase… very fitting!… and to top it off, we got a second Butcher Cleaver for her, which made me make the actual miniature for that survivor. I most admit the Butcher miniature is probably my least favourite KDM miniature and no, I didn’t really enjoying painting him and it shows in the paint job, which isn’t that great, but it will have to do.

When we started playing Dungeons & Dragons beginning of last year, we put our then Kingdom Death: Monster campaign on hold around Lantern Year 10. However, recently we decided to bring out the game again (and start all over as nobody remembered where we left off) and it’s revived my interest in painting miniatures for the game, the first one being the Screaming Antilope that I never finished in the first place. It was painted quite fast, but I am happy with the skinless look of its creepy body. Note the ring on her finger. Yes, we got married!

I haven’t played Warhammer 40.000 or Warhammer Fantasy Battle for a long while, but I keep up with what’s happening at Games Workshop and when I saw the Adeptus Mechanicus Kastelan Robots, I really liked them. They remind me of the playstation game Fallout. But I tend to buy only what I need so didn’t get them straight away. However, I got them recently for two reasons: 1 was to use them as Iron Golems in D&D and the other was to try out a painting technique I read about a while back using very thinned white layers to create a…

Last year I made a oneshot for a couple of old friends. I was quite happy with it and when Bad Moon Cafe opened up nearby, I decided to run the same adventure again and I’ve now run it twice. Here are some photos of the two sessions. 07 Feb 2019 This game was very hack and slashy. Mainly players fairly new to the game, which makes this a fun experience for them as my style is quite old school. Favourite moment goes to on of the newbies playing Paladin who asked “Can I Smite and roll the awakening Flesh…

Having failed to exchange the captured evil souls for that of Larsen Qu, The party set out to investigate the strange news of chunks of cows bring thrown at the nearby village of Silkenheim. As the heroes arrived at the village, the villagers turned into a frightened and angry mob when they saw the Dragonborn sorcerer as they had been terrorised by the xenophobic “Trueborn” who were hunting the party. Fortunately their old compadre, the Tabaxi Cleric Feather, rejoined the party and calmed the mob. First encounter: The Trueborn ambush The party decided to kill the dragon wyrmling guarding two…

I had a container I got with a perfume bottle. I though the container was an interesting size for a small shabby hut and I liked the tall base which was perfect for the floor. I never quite understood the idea of only removing the roof on terrain houses as you still have the walls in the way. This way the walls are removed with the roof. I added some turf and some rats too. I get it that people recommend not adding things like turf as it doesn’t naturally fit in for example a snow landscape, but I think…
