We are at Lantern Year 6 in our first campaign, so getting these painted is long overdue… in fact, we are already using other survivor minis such as The Young Survivor and the Intimacy Couple. I love these prologue minis! I will post individual pics of them below in the order I like them, but they are all four super cool and so full of character. The eyes are actually so small I cannot see them with my eyes (says something about my age), so I took photos with my mobile as I painted them to check what they looked like….

Before getting the actual game, my plan was always to paint the White Lion and the 4 starting survivors before starting the game, but faith would have it we started the game pretty much straight away. In Lantern Year 3 of our first campaign, two of the starting survivors, Diana and Tyr, formed a Partnership, and in Lantern Year 4, they got intimate and had the healthy girl: Patricialina, who inherited her father’s love for big axes… in Lantern Year 6, she rebelled against her parents and became a bowman, but I digress. I really liked the old and the young survivor miniatures, so…

“No battle plan ever survives the first contact.” My plan was to paint the 4 survivors and at least the White Lion before starting to play… but that plan went out the window when I got the game as we juuust want to do a test run and lo and behold, we are now at year 5 having defeated both the White Lion, the Screaming Antelope, the Butcher, the Manhunter and have had our first offspring: A girl with an unhealthy addiction to big axes. More about her another time. However, I finally got around to start painting and I…

The Minotaur from Arcadia Quest is a fairly simple model, hence I chose to keep to a simple colour scheme, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t great fun to paint. Really enjoyed painting this mini especially trying to paint marbles for the first time. Also used the scratches technique I first tried on the Grobbit Executioner and  The Forgotten King for Super Dungeon Explore: Happy with the overall result.

I had been painting the Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King boxset and had almost finished when I saw a box of Arcadia Quest in my local game store, Dark Sphere. It resembled Super Dungeon Explore so I had a look, but didn’t buy it outright because after all I had just gotten the Super Dungeon Explore game. However, a quick surf on the interwebs I found that Arcadia Quest ranks 76 on BoardGameGeek.com with Super Dungeon Explore only ranking 1,352. And to make matters worse Tom Vessel, who’s reviews I really like, ranked Arcadia Quest in his Top 10 best games……

This is my first non-Forgotten King and likely to be my last Super Dungeon Explore mini for a while as I A) want to play game itself and find out if my friends are interested, and B) I recently bought Arcadia Quest so want to paint that set next. Nyan Nyan is the first ever miniature where I’ve tired to add some blush to the cheeks so all you lady painters out there: Feel free to laugh at my attempt to do makeup!

Soooo close! I promised myself I wouldn’t paint (or buy) any additions to Super Dungeon Explore before I had completed the Forgotten King box. I was one mini short (Boris) when I found Shadow Mode Candy in Leisure Games. Boris is half finished so all things equal, Shadow Mode Candy can take his place for the time being. She’s been super fun to paint. Gradient hair was difficult. Gave me grey hair, but I’m happy with the result. The sword was another challenge as the last 25% of the sword had not been cast, so I had to create the…

I wanted to paint the Forgotten King himself as the last miniature of the box, but painting the scratched cloaks of the Grobbit Executioners, I really wanted to test out the same technique on the King’s cloak… and with only Boris and the Creeps left, I felt it was ok to fast forward to the King. Another thing I was keen on trying was his face. I know on the card itself he is white faced, but given the sculpt, I wanted to try and emulate the colours of an owl. I was using a Google image search as inspiration,…

The Evil Medieval This monster gang (or should I say these as there effectively are two) took significantly longer to paint than the Cabbage Gang. And but the Frog Knights and the Billmen took longer to paint than the heroes due to their level of details. All in all I am happy with the result, but to be honest, I like the cabbage monsters better so they were more fun to paint. Bramle Knight Spawning Points The Bad-ass Bunnies The Grobbit Executioners were fun to paint. I tried to make their cloaks scratchy inspired by an article in White Dwarf,…

The Cabbage Army Love how fast this gang was to paint: Prime green, drybrush the shit of of them and add a bit of colour here and there to distinguish elites. Next gang from Fogotten King won’t be that fast though. Old-Growth Hollow Spawning Points The Sprouts I do love the idea of the little annoying Lil Sprout transforming into the big menace that is the King Sprout. Mooks Note the Sprouts and the Mooks have a slightly blue’er tint to their overall green colour than the Wisp and Turnip Heads in order to make them seem related. Wisps I…
