I picked up D&D in Jan, 2018 (last year at the time of writing this) after a 20 year break and one of the first (if not the first) youtube channel I found with advice was “Running the Game” by Matt Colville – A really great, to the point channel of advice for DMing. Matt often makes a point of saying that his channel runs without ads so when he launched the kickstarter for his D&D supplement “Strongholds & Followers”, I immediately decided to support it regardless of what it was, as a way to give back to Matt. However, when…

As mentioned in the red batch, I think the Kobolds from Otherworld Miniatures are so full of character and great minis too. Since then, I have field the Kobolds and while our heroes didn’t enjoy the encounter so much (the players did), I had a blast as I decided to mimic the behaviour of the “Rumpenisser” (“Rumphobs” in English) from the movie “Ronja Røverdatter”… it’s recently been remade as a Netflix TV series called “Ronya Robberdaughter”. Basically, the Rumphobs do not talk directly to other people and they say “Whatfor?!?” a lot. My Kobolds do something similar in that they…

I’ve had the rough outline for this oneshot for some time, but it wasn’t until I saw the encounter “The Minotaur Bridge (pdf)” on Runehammer’s Patreon (that I can highly recommend btw), that the pieces fell in place. The adventure is made for D&D 5th edition for a lvl 2 party of 3-5 players. A quick thanks to Hankerin Ferinale aka Runehammer for letting me link to directly to The Minotaur Bridge (pdf). I’m going to break the 4th wall (or the DM screen) a bit here by giving you the full DM outline. Afterwards there are photos and comments from…

I was looking for some gold pile terrain pieces when I found this amazing youtube video describing how to make treasure piles and it worked like a charm! No point in me explaining how I made these as i followed the video to the letter except I used a purple wash rather than a black wash. Really fun to make… the flat is full of glitter now, but it was worth it! Super happy with the result. Small gold piles Medium gold piles Large gold piles And finally: One huge gold pile Gold piles in details Infernax, the young red…

February last year, I introduced D&D to a bunch of people who almost all had no prior experience with the game or very little from when they were in school. Now, a year and a half later, we are still playing the same campaign, but in the last chapter of our campaign, we had the very first character death! I’ll come to that at the end of the article, but the game also had some other lessons learned that I want to cover. Enter the Everdry Desert Long story short, the party is heading into the Everdry Desert to retrieve…

I have absolutely no idea what game these orcs belong to (do you? Let me know!). I bought them at Salute in 2018 as I thought they were funny and full of unique character. Semi-happy with the paint job but it will have to do. In the process of painting them, I realised all my orcs are from different manufactures so I made a group shot which you can find at the end, In my D&D game it means that all Orcs are uniqu and have unique personalities. So far our party has only met the orc with the whip…

I only recently learned about Rage Craft Miniatures , but when I saw the photos of this amazing Witch King I bought it immediately. And the real miniature didn’t disappoint! In fact, I’d say eventhough I am happy with the paintjob on this one, it doesn’t do the miniature justice! Really badass undead dude.Would work well as a Death Knight with it’s own personality rather than being a copy of Lord Soth.

Saw this miniatures years ago but didn’t have a use for it (I tend to paint only what I need for playing). And although our D&D party is nowhere near at the level where they can fight vampires, I still think the chance they might one day is a good enough reason to buy and paint it! To me she is the kind of vampire that comes with armour and swords rather than spells.

Truth is I have never fielded Kobolds! So when I saw these little dudes from Otherworld Miniatures I was super excited about painting them so I hope I get a chance to field them. One of the things I love about the Warhammer 40.000 Rouge Trade era Orks is the personality that shines through in the miniatures and these Kobolds really have the same traits, not to mention the details is phenomenal given the size of them. I found the eyes significant more easy to paint than most larger miniatures. Size comparison to an elf. Ganging up with their blue…

The first time I saw this dragon I really liked it and it didn’t take long for me to buy it. I bought it as a Reaper Bones as I think the details are good enough on bigger creatures. Fast paint job, lots of drybrushing… in fact I probably spent more time making and painting the base. I also think this miniature has a good size as it works both as Young and Adult Dragon as shown below. Full dragon compliment Minus Dragon Wyrmlings … and yes, the green one is technically a wyvern!
