Diary of Haáldr Nielglenson's Warband

06/09/05

Accursed luck has dogged me these past few days, a sure sign that the lesser so-called gods fear my coming and strive to stop me by any means.

To begin with I was caught alone by some puritanical fools who would have seen me dead, however as they escorted me toward my fate my trusted band arrived to free me. They were not the only ones in the area that day though it seems, as a group lead by a blasted Tzeentchian dark elf and his foul twin decided they would test my festering comrades.

My band fought well, my dwarven companions proving their mastery of quarrel as well as axe as they bought time for my beastmen to attempt a rescue. However, my lord must have deemed me needy of a lesson in humility as first my dwarves and the my beastmen were over run and I was left helpless at the mercy of the elf that calls himself Shadowblade and his fireballs.

In retrospect it was not the abject humiliation it at first appeared, (though Nielglen knows if I ever catch that pointy eared bastard I'll inflict such suffering on him he'll wish his great-grandparents had never met), Whilst the elf's fireballs partially deafened myself, one of the dwarves & my musician and my standard bearer has become a touch dimmer, (if it is possible for a beastman to become any more so), the only real casualty was the death of one dwarf, and whilst an annoyance it will not mean that my crusade will end, not by any means!

That's everything to date, it was a fun first week, I'm looking forward to 2 weeks time.

The Journey Begins

At last Nielglen has heard my pleas and supplications, he has accepted my humble offerings and they were received well. He has finally judged me worthy of his glorious attention.

Last night I was visited by the most wondrous dreams. I saw the world of men festering with rot and decay whilst those who do not worship at the great god's altar were brought low by all manner of poxes and diseases that I myself was spreading to them in his name. It was an inspirational sight and at the end of it Nielglen himself whispered his approval of my deeds and told me of his plans.

Upon awaking I discovered a blessing from my god, for from my mouth had sprouted fangs, the first sign that I am truly his chosen. I must set out soon so as to prove myself worthy of his good grace and earn more of his blessings.

Recruitment drive

At last, after almost 2 months of wandering the wastes alone, Nielglen has finally decided that my time of solitary contemplation is at an end.

This past evening I stumbled across a band of brutish Beastmen who made to attack me, but I cast upon them the most vile and hideous pox. One-by-one they quickly succumbed. Of the 12 that began, only 2 survived, warped by the disease somehow into men-beasts more fitting to Nielglen's eyes. They quickly swore fealty to me and my master and we made camp.

Then, when I awoke from my slumber this morning I discovered a group of 8 Dwarves that had set up camp alongside to ours. They told me that that Nielglen had led them to me through powerful visions in order that they may aid me in the coming struggles.

Now I have my accomplices, I feel confident I will prove myself worthy of my position, rumours have reached me on my travels of other so-called champions of chaos that have risen recently, I will find them and they will bow before me and my god willingly, or they will die by my hand.

All the pieces are now in play, it is time to let the games begin.
