Eldritch Hack – Case 2: The Miracle of Saint Kieran – File 2

Article written by Gamemaster Anna Maria Ristori

The Parrish

We left our Nicky and Seamus stepping into the St. Kieran Parrish in Leighlinbridge, only to be met with a dreadful feeling of despair and suffocation that cost them 2 Sanity Points.

After the first impression with the church and jumping back, Nicky and Seamus get to explore the parrish and chat more with Father Colin.

Seamus helps Father Martin O’Donoghue setting up cameras all over the church in order to record anything ”miracolous”, and while doing so with his skill in enviromental awereness skill, Seamus gets the sensation that something is definitely off in St. Kieran. Yes, the parrish looks absolutely regular and ordinary, old like it’s supposed to be but something feels off. Especially in the left side, near a freshly painted wall. Gaining 1 Lore Point, Seamus can tell that things may look normal, but aren’t and the weird sensation he gets from the freshly painted wall has something to do with it.

Meanwhile, Nicole is still trying to recover and is approached by Father Colin with some tap water and comforting words. What catches Nicky’s eyes, given her passion for jewels, is a very sophisticated cross that Father Coling wears around his neck. Gold with rubies engraved, the cross looks a tad too expensive for a 29 years old priest, but Father Colin claims he bought it at an auction in London and Nicky has no reason to not believe the cheerful and kind man.

Nicole then joins Seamus in exploring the church and after scraping a bit of the new paint and even walked outside and around the church, they don’t find anything but old walls and bricks. That’s when they decide to go in town and meet with Sister Fiona, the retired assistant of Father Colin. But not before…

The Tapes

As they announce they are driving back in town, Seamus and Nicole notice Father Martin watching some VHS tapes on his player. They immediately recognize what they see: Susan and Clarke Marigold’s wedding day. What they see is really extraordinary, while Father Martin is still skeptical and Father Colin remembers the event with watery eyes, Nicky and Seamus see first hand the ”divine light” that filled the church while the couple exchanged their vows. It is in this moment that our duo discovers that the Marigold’s wedding wasn’t the only miracle caught on tape.

Little Patrick O’Malley was baptised by Father Colin, yet again on a Sunday morning mass. It is with deep shock, that Nicky, Seamus and Father Martin see the baby levitating right after getting baptised. Flying mid air, the toddler doesn’t seem attached to strings or lifted by anything mechanical. Now, they really want to know more about these miracles.

Sister Fiona

Driving back to Leighlinbridge, Nicky and Seamus get to meet with Sister Fiona. The nun, in her late 60’s with a passion for gardening, lives right next to the infamous ”Gravediggers” pub, and immediately welcomes the two in for some tea and scones (and whiskey). Sister Fiona served St Kieran parrish all her life and left shortly after the miracles happened. A bit skeptical about the divine nature of the events, she believes that Father Colin in his good heart has set them up to gain more fame and hence financial support for the small parrish of the village.

Sister Fiona warns Nicky and Seamus also about the disappearences: she heard that people has gone missing, among them Susan and Clarke Marigold. Some say they moved out of town, some say they are still on their honeymoon, but she surely hasn’t seen them in a while. The nun is of course also worried about the troubled teenagers that go the pub next her cottage, but Nicky and Seamus are ready to go all the lenghts to discover what’s happening in town.

Unfortunately though, despite intruding from the back door inside the Gravediggers Pub, Nicky and Seamus don’t find anything weird in the pub, surely it stinks and lacks all sanitary requirements but nothing out of the ordinary comes out of its cellars, office and counter.

The Evening Mass

Upon finishing their investigation, Nicole and Seamus return to St. Kieran in time for the evening mass at 6.30 pm. The pews start filling with people of Leighlinbridge, some expection a new miracles but all of them excited to share their faith with the community.

As expected though, during this mass, no supernatural even occurs leaving Seamus and Nicky relieved but also more curious. With their social skills, Seamus and Nicky try to catch more information from the locals, but all they get is that indeed no one has seen the Marigolds in a while, but of course they must be on their honeymoon still right?

Together with Father Martin, made aware of the disappearence of the Marigolds, they return to the Fox Hole Inn, with the plan to sneak out during the night to go talk with the ”demonic” kids at the Gravedigger Pub.
