When Mordheim came out back in 1999, it didn’t really catch my attention as it seemed heavily focused on humans and had no Orcs or Goblins whic was (and still is) preferred Warhammer races.
It was also around the time I moved from Denmark to London and discovered a whole range of non Games Workshop games such as Warzone, Vor the Maelstrom, Void and Confrontation.
So I never got around to play it.
Fast forward to 2020 when I moved back to Denmark after 21 years in London, Oldhammer nostalgia has become a big draw for me and I got my hands on a Mordheim rulebook a few years ago and have been accumulating Mordheim warbands since then.
2026 will be the year I paint them starting with this fantastic Skaven Warband that I have beefed up with some older Warhammer Skaven I have picked up along the way.
This gang was super fun to paint.
The official Mordheim Skaven
I’m first going to show you the official Mordheim Skaven without talking you through the colour choices as I realised I have actually painted and planned some of them for something else than they are.
After this section, I will show all minis and what I will be using them for.
Veskit the Executioner
I am actually not entirely sure he is an official Mordheim mini, but he seems to be.
He will be my Assassin Adept… at least until i get a Death Master Snikch.
Assassin Adepts
As I’m using Veskit as my Assassin Adept, these two will be Black Skaven, hence the black fur.
Black Skaven
One I will be using as a Black Skaven, hence the black fur, the other I actually thought was a regular Skaven.
Rat Ogres
Would I ever use them in the game? Not sure, but they were mighty fun to paint. I had some spare rats in my bit box that I added to their bases.
Eshin Sorcerer
Now… I am not saying any magic user needs to wear a cloak as Gandalf, but I do think i have a better solution for the Eshin Sorcerer. More further down.
Night Runners
I actually thought these were just regular Skaven. more on what I will be using as Night Runners later.

As mentioned earlier, I thought the official Night Runners were just regular Skaven. So instead I’ll use these two Skaven Assassins.
Black Skaven
I’ll use two Assassin Adepts minis, a Black Skaven mini (the one with the gun) and this tanked up Skaven mini.
Skaven Warriors
A Poison Wind Globadier as Skaven Warrior.
A couple of Plague Censer-Bearers as Skaven Warriors
