As of writing this, my Bad Moon warband has Snakebites, Goffs and Freebooters support, but I am missing Evil Suns, Blood Axes and Death Skulls.
But buying Evil Suns vehicles is quite expensive. There is ofcourse the option to 3D print, but I thought it would be fun to scratch build a classic Ork Battle Wagon.
As I progressed, it became three instead of one:
- One for the Evil Suns
- One for Snakebites as I had an idea of using palisades as sides. (frankly, they don’t need it as they already have both Cyboars and a custom Mekboy chariot).
- One for Bad Moons (this will come later as I didn’t have the wheels at the time of writing this).
The final Evil Suns and Snakebites Battle Wagons
Yes, I am aware the Blood Axe Kommado Mob doesn’t quite fit the clan colours, but my miniatures are in storage at the moment and this was the only suitable mob I could find.

How I built them
What I used
First of all, I couldn’t find the measurements, so I eye balled it. Looking at the results, they do look bigger than I remember.
The things I used were:
- 3mm cardboard.
- Wheels from Lego.
- A disassembled Optimus Prime toy, parts used for engine.
- Self-adhesive rhinestones from Panduro for rivets.
- Coffee stir-sticks and ice lolly sticks from Panduro.
- Grey Primer from Panduro.
- Black primer from Jem & Fix.
Measurements
As I didn’t have access to an actual battle wagon, I eyeballed the size based on being able to fit 6 Orks in the main space.
The result looks bigger than I remember, but that’s fine.
First step: The chassis
Adding rhinestones as rivets as I go.
I found these white plates for pearls that I though would be good for the steps on the side of the vehicle.
The second chassis uses stir sticks as palisades. Perfect for the more feral Snakebite clan.
The three chassises coming along, each with their own unique apperance.
Wheels
Lego wheels arrive. Although the big and the small ones are not the same style, I still think it will work.
Adding rhinestones as rivets.
Missing one set of wheels as I originally ordered two sets to have a spare, but then decided to make three battle wagons instead of one.
And finally wheels are attached.
Gentle-orks! Start your engines!
I bought a few cheep car toys with some exposed engine bits, but they were just not detailed enough.
Then by chance I found a rather detailed Optimus Prime Transformer toy at a second hand store. and after disassembling it, I had enough bits for engines for all three Battle Wagons.
They do not look identical to the original Battle Wagon, but if you follow Ork lore from back in the days, Orks would built things intuitively and not according to plan, which meant all vehicles were unique.
Second engine done!
Prime time!
First two layers of No Limit – Universal Primer from Panduro and dry for 24 hours.
Then a layer of Luxi Spray Paint, Mat Black from Jen & fix. Dry for 24 hours and ready to paint.
