The Church

Ready to discover what is truly going on with Saint Kieran, Seamus and Nicky arms themselves with torches, ropes, hammers and crowbars and dive into the dark tunnel. The darkness engulfs them with no other option but going straight forward.
Surrounded only by stench and the voice of Vanessa crying for help, they follow their need to discover what happened to the missing people and what truly lurks under the church.

But deeper they adventure in the tunnel, Seamus and Nicky start to realize the walls are getting closer and closer, so is the roof getting smaller, forcing them to squeeze and almost crawl towards the voice. Then, in the depths, they see a spark: a light, warm and bright calling to them. It doesn’t take much time for them to realize they are finally witnessing the ”miracle”, the divine light caught on tape during the Marigold’s wedding. If for Seamus, seeing this light is a life-changing experience, humbling and closer to God, for Nicky on the other hand is quite the opposite. That light has nothing divine about it, thinks our occult expert barista, and she is even more sure when touching the walls, she finds red paint.

The red paint is not the only thing they find as the light get closer.

Suddenly, under their feet a strange thick mud makes it almost impossible to move forward… but their hands get glued on the side walls too!

With their shoes stuck in the mud with every step they take, they can’t escape taking a big load of Hit Points Damage when an acid liquid rains down on them.

With their clothes burned and skin scorching, Seamus and Nicky run away, at this point sure that this tunnel is not a tunnel at all, but rather something alive that is trying to eat them.

Crawling on their bellies, suffocated by this quicksands-like mud and burning from the acid rain, they use all their quick thinking and skills to make it out alive: Nicky is a former athlete from her college years so she gathers all her resistence to get out, while Seamus relies on his luck and on a very risky idea: using a bottle of gin first and a lantern after, he creates two explosions inside the throat-like tunnel.

The explosion gives them enough time, as the creature fights back, to crawl back outside.

They made it out barely alive, Seamus lost one of his eyes due to the acid rain, and it is night time when they escape the tunnel.

Conclusion

As soon as Seamus and Nicky see the light of the moon, they also recognise the blue and red lights of ambulances and police cars. A team of paramedics find them and give them first aid, and while they are taken in an ambulance they see Father Martin arguing with the police, next to him a covered body.

Waking up in a hospital room, bandaged head to toe to heal from the burnings, they find next to them Father Martin, finally relieved to see them safe and sound. Now Seamus and Nicky can find out what truly was going on with Saint Kieran.

While they entered the tunner, Father Martin and a, always more panicked Father Colin, called the people of Leighlinbridge to cancel the game night, but they also decided to investigate. Bringing down a wall, they found a staircase going deep in what seemed to be catacombs. There they found ”The Body of Christ” painted in red and corpses, bones and guts of the disappeared people. Having completely lost his mind, Father Colin took his own life by jumping from the tower. There was a god yes, but not the kind of God they were expecting to find. The Church of Saint Kieran was alive, ancient, and it indeed fed on the people, luring them in its mouth with miracles. But now that the truth is out, the authorities took the matter in their hands and burned it down, saving the village of Leighlinbridge and who knows how many other lives.
