Dungeons & Dragons – Gaming board set 18 – Sandy Marble Castle

This project came about of a desire to create scale and range for games run online.

As we play online, most of our combat encounters end up being very close range to make sure everything is visible on screen.

But I wanted to add some range, so instead of using the classic 5 foot squares, I took inspiration from the classic Ultimate Dungeon Terrain where each zone is a full move making each “square” a full move.

This worked really well in this game, so I decided to make a full game board where each square is effectively a full move (e.g. roughly 30ft).

The board is inspired by my old Gaming Board 6 with the marble style, and I even repurposed the scatter from it. But instead of just using kitchen top stickers for marble, I used a marble spray and I like this look much better.

It is super easy. Here are the steps:

First prime the surface white. Then spray with a marble spray. I used this one, but there are many types.

This is quite stark so I decided to add a translucent layer of white. This is really where the magic happened.

Then another round of marble spray. This effectively gives a sene of depth.

And then finally another coat of translucent white.

Done!

Now I did add an additional layer of sand to my set because I want it to look like a castle drowned in sand, but that is not needed.

Here is the results
