With two of their comrades dead, the Paladin Damon and the Warlock Alyanys was on the look out for new recruits. Fortunately an unknown (kinda) mysterious benefactor (Jean-Jacques in disguise) had found two candidates and invited all four to a team building exercise in a haunted tower (damdamdaaaaam) at the edge of Twilight Forest. The 4 heroes met at midnight as instructed and was asked to divide into two pair, each with a veteran and a recruit, and scale the tower ruin with the promise of magic items to the winners. The ground floor The ground floor of the tower…

Having learned of the Baroness’ disappearance, Damon rallied the rest of the Nightshift heroes and they quickly ran through a number of ideas of how to get into the castle and in the end settled for a similar approach as what Damon had had success with already: The two Paladins would claim to be entering the castle to provide extra protection for the Baroness while Alyanys the Warlock made herself and Welby the Halfling invisible and followed closely. It was an easy ploy made easier by name-dropping Sergeant Konrad who had previously let Damon inside. Inside the castle The four…

DM note, this game was inspired by Matt Colville’s recent video on running a One-on-One D&D game. I’ve never run any RPG for only one player so I was curious as to how this would be. So instead of informing one of my players of a background story for our next game, I decided to play it out as a small mini adventure and it was actually quite a lot of fun! Our Paladin Damon had been spending his free time at the upmarket tavern The Gilded Goose located near Castle Daisygate in Feyview. Here he had started a relationship with…

DM: Sean Brand, one of the Paladins of the party, had disappeared again. This was not the first time, but it had been days and his companions was starting to get nervous. As they were sitting around their usual table in The Unnamed Tavern, a Sprite arrived looking for them as he had found Brand delirious by the coast. The heroes quickly found Brand washed up on the shore, but rushing to rescue him, they disturbed the feeding grounds of a group of Sahuagin who took offence and attacked the heroes. They were no match for our heroes as they…

These are my notes as a player as this Chapter was DMed by  first-time Dungeon Master Tony, who did a great job despite having the handicap of having to run the game remotely due to the current pandemic. This was my second game as a player. Our heroes were hanging out in the Unnamed Tavern when a Knight-type character in the unusualy company of two Orcs entered the tavern. They aimed for the bar owner and in somewhat aggressive fashion started questioning him about Dr Kloner. The bar owner looked positively puzzled and frightened and the heroes stepped in to calm…

In our previous game, Our Warlock, Alynanys the half-elf, had suddenly been summoned away by her patron, the Pit Fiend general, Xinphalaxal The Angel Charmer. (Sean, her player, was Dungeon Master in last game). However, Alyanys did not returned as planned so the rest of our heroes went through her stuff and found a letter addressed to them with a glass ring that when broken, would create a portal to where-ever Alyanys might be, so they could grab her and all jump back safely. Hastily, the heroes opened the portal and found themselves in a large hot room, full of…

DM notes …eh… actually, it is my notes as a player as this Chapter was DMed by Sean, one of our regular players. He did a fantastic job even with the handicap of having to run the game remotely due to the current pandemic. Last time I was a player was in High School, back in 1994 playing Jancovich, the Street Mage in Shadowrun. During the army and Design College I did a bit of DMing, but over all roleplaying games gave way for tabletop wargames and I stopped RPGs completely in 1999 when I moved to London only to…

Having found the strange and alien Mind Controlling Device, our heroes realised they had no idea how to use it. But they were certain the device, the Black Sapphire, the Mind Flayer, the tentacles, the cultists all of it were linked so they reviewed what they had learned so far about the Deep Planes and decided to go right back to the start: To Vivandrum’s house. Returning to the beginning They found the house completely intact with no sign of the trouble they had faced in there, but it was also entirely empty. On the top floor, however, there was…

This Chapter was back to old-school dungeon crawl, but I have to say most of our characters’ personalities and motives grew a lot in this game. Several times I had the pleasure of sitting back and watch the story unfold between the characters. Really enjoyed this game! Saving the Half-Fey The Nightshift have had a quite few days following their second run in with the Mindflayer. One day while browsing in the Scrambles, the central market place, the heroes notice all the commonfolk rushing towards the barracks in exciting voices: Somebody is about to face judgement. Our heroes follow the…

We pick up the story after our heroes fled the Mindflayer and its army of mindless minions. This was second game running D&D remote. See my guide to how we run remote D&D with terrain and miniatures here. In the abandoned warehouse, the party discussed what to do with the Black Sapphire and decided to find out more about the mysterious gem before making a decision on whether to keep, sell or destroy it. However, before the party could leave the warehouse a mob of mindless persons came crashing through the door at the behest of the Mindflayer. The party…

When last we met our Nightshift heroes, they had come in possession of the Black Sapphire, that on the surface was a disputed heirloom, but given the events unfolding, the heroes suspect it is much more than just an unusual gem stone.  The only clue they had was their dying patreon saying they need to take the gem stone to the Fairydopterist. What will they do? Learnings from running a remote D&D game Given the Corona virus lock down, I ran this game as a remote game using Google Hangouts. I tied my phone to my hobby lamp so I…
