I was part of “the wave” when IK Warmachine first hit and was a diehard Cryx player for a long time before I felt the game got too big. But I keep up with what the produce so when I needed an undead captain for a Dungeons & Dragons game, it was an easy choice to get Captain Rengrave. I actually rand short on time so speed painted him following the technique I used for my Zombicide game and I’m quite pleased with the result.

Current Army selection 1 Goreshade 80 1 Skarlock 16 1 Machine Wraith 21 1 Pistol Wraith 33 1 Night Wretch 44 2 Slayer 220 3 Necrotechs 27 10 Scrap Thralls 50 10 Mechanithralls 60 5 Trolls 80 Total Army size 634 Gold Coins 25 Diary 6/7 Versus Cygnar led by Stryker. Won (9/9) +210 Gold Coins. Won the game but took hefty amount of damage. I scored 9 VP including Stryker while my opponent also score 9VP without killing my warcaster. On top of that I was not able to buy warjacks in the city, leaving me with an almost…

Cryx Colourscheme After the Deathripper Prototype I decided to paint my jacks completely metal! Why completely metal? well, Necrotechs builds the Warjacks out of dead men/ animals and raw machinery/ metal by magically fusing them. I don’t think they care for painting them. The colour of the army is provided by the Scrap Thralls which have the colour of the enemy warjacks they were created from. So I decided to go the easy way and drybrush the lot! It took me less time to paint the first 2 Bonejacks and the first Slayer than painting the prototype. Later additions like Skarlock and…

So… Just to be clear this game did NOT go as planned. A Total Party Kill can be mighty epic and fill the table with satisfaction eventhough every character got killed. However, a Wipe Out where basically the party utterly fails is never fun and unfortunately this spin-off chapter turn into exactly that. In hindsight I made two critical errors as the Dungeon Master: I changed what had been an almost dormant gaming environment to one that suddenly moved with a purpose, with or without the players. I gave the players a map. I never do that so I can move…

It is the day after the official Warmachine torunament at AGS Con 05 with a slightly Cryx-y feel to it (4 Cryx armies vs 1 Cygnar and 1 Khador) and a somewhat recognisable list of players (4 from my local club PEWC). My force used was (I had two forces but only used this one): 1 Warwitch Deneghra 1 Seether 1 Night Wretch 2 Deathrippers 1 Skarlock Thrall 2 Pistol Wraiths 1 Necrotech 6 Scrap Thralls 1 Mechanithrall max unit A good day of gaming nevertheless and congratulations to Angrychef for winning the tournament. Photos below are from my 3 games. Game 1:…

At the time writting this I am actually a Cryx player, but I had this idea that a mideval painting on the big plates of a Menoth jack could look cool so I decided to buy a Menoth jack to try it out. This is the first time in years I am painting a miniature I don’t need for an army. I think last time I did something like that was in 1997, that’s six years ago. I painted the gold as non-metalic-metal which isn’t really the best technique to do battle-worn warjacks but I didn’t want too many…

Menoth army composition After painting Cryx I wanted to do another faction and I chose to paint Menoth since I already had some Menoth minis lying around. But contrary to the Cryx which I built as the minis came out, I now have the luxury to compose an army on paper before buiyng anything. And doing so I decided to do a 500 point Knights Exemplar based army which looks like this: High Exemplar Kreoss 2 Revengers 1 Crusader Minimum Choir 2 units of Knights Exemplar 1 Seneshal Small changes might occur in the future, for example I would like to add another Seneshal…

One of the things many Warmachine players neglect is the fact that a destroyed warjack still takes part in the game as a wreck marker that equals rough terrain. Most times destroyed warjacks are simply removed of the battle field if nobody is using a Necrotech that is! One reason for this might be that there isn’t a wreck miniature out and most of us would rather not waste a proper warjack miniature on wreck markers although more than one can be made of each warjack. The solution So what to do? Well, answer is simple: Mech Warriors!. We all know…

Mercenaries Gallery Boomhowler & Co To make Boomhowler and his mates look different from my Cryx I have chosen to paint them in red worn armour and with a bright tartan. Let me just say that I am never painting tartan again. It takes ages and it does not look as good as I wanted it to do. Some of the tartans I have painted over and over again without reaching a decent result. The armour is an experiment using magic metal as base, painted Vampire Red on it loosly and drybruseh with bronze. This was very easily done and worked like a charm….

Update Following my Epic Denny post on PP forum it seemd to be unaminously agreed that blood should not run down on the incorporeal bit of Deneghra, so I have repainted this as show on the last two photos above. Right, Wraithwitch Deneghra…. hmmm… I will be the first to admit I am a Denny fanboy all the way. I bought the Cryx starter set even before Prime was published and have played Deneghra ever since. Sure I bought Iron Liche, even painted him recently. Also got Skarre… not painted yet. And yes, I did buy Goreshade and played a couple…

Some miniatures I really want to paint… and some I don’t. The Iron Lich falls under the latter. I can’t really say why since I actually think the miniature is great and the rules and fluff for him (it?) is even better, but it is a miniature I have kept pushing down my list of things to paint. However, to last Canterbury Tournament I wanted to field something else than good ol’ Denny girl, and with half my armylist already full of untested miniatures (Bloat Thrall and Revenant Crew) I decided to go the Lich. The paint job Asphyxious follows…
