I spent quite a long time looking for Dwarven undead and was quite proud of the gang I had painstakingly collected, so when I found the Macrocosm box of dwarven skellies, it was with mixed feelings. However, I still think the gang I’ve collected is a pretty cool team and I painted their bases in lava style to distinguish them from the lowly cannon fodder skeletons.
I’ve spent the last year and a half finding dwarven undead… I’ve found 5 minis so far and then I found the Ancient Grudges – Bonefields set from Macrocosm Games that has a ton of Dwarf and Goblin Skellies! Great variety and quality of these little cute minis. I painted them using this speed painting technique for skeletons. Took maybe 2.5 – 3 hours in total minus drying time and the result is good.
I only recently learned about Rage Craft Miniatures , but when I saw the photos of this amazing Witch King I bought it immediately. And the real miniature didn’t disappoint! In fact, I’d say eventhough I am happy with the paintjob on this one, it doesn’t do the miniature justice! Really badass undead dude.Would work well as a Death Knight with it’s own personality rather than being a copy of Lord Soth.
Getting back into Dungeons & Dragons this year has truly revived my painting hobby and looking back at 2018, I have painted more minis this year than the previous decade! Without any further ado, here are all of them in a single post! When I bought the Dryad Queen from Greebo Games, I also noticed how many amazing undead miniatures they make and I bought these two without really knowing where they would fit in my campaign. Fast forward to now where we are closing in on the first big conclusion of the campaign, it is clear our arch enemy, the necromancer Varona Stillborn is equally obsessed with the elementals. So turning these two undead champions into elemental based Deathlocks matching my Ice & Snow and my Lava Inferno gaming board sets, seemed to make perfect sense.
while I didWizKidz’ miniatures complain about feeling like toys, there is no reason why you can’t use toys for Dungeons and Dragons. For example, I found these pose skeleton toys by Re-ment in Japan and one of them was a devil one with wings. Quick bone spray, Agrax Earthshade ink and drybrush later, and I have a boss undead skeleton!
I got this amazing skiing skeleton as a freebie in an order from Otherworld Miniatures…. The question is not “should I use him in my current D&D campaign?” but “how on earth do I get him into the campaign?” 🙂 In the end I introduced him to a game in flight in a spur of the moment action speeding down a snowy mountain towards the party. And the crowd loved him.
Jan 2018 I picked up playing Roleplaying Games again as Dungeon Master for the homebrew Dungeons and Dragons campaign: War of the Triplets. 4 out of the 5 players in my group where either completely new to roleplaying games or had played a tiny bit as kids some 30 years ago! So I ran a session for each of them where we first created their character and then I threw them into a mini adventure called “Jorn The Wellwatcher” to teach them the basics. Setting the scene It’s been a long time since the party was together, but they have…
As per the Dain Deepaxe post, I’ve picked up Dungeons & Dragons for the first time in 20 years and this Reaper Plague is one of the first minis I’ve painted for the game.
